Kielbasa

Kielbasa is a Polish sausage that's become popular worldwide. The word literally means "sausage" in Polish, but in American usage it typically refers to a specific type of smoked pork sausage with a distinctive garlicky, slightly smoky flavor.
Traditional Polish kielbasa comes in many varieties - some fresh, some smoked, some dried. The most common type found in American grocery stores is "kielbasa polska" - a pre-cooked, smoked sausage that's ready to eat but often heated before serving.
It's made primarily from pork (sometimes mixed with beef), seasoned with garlic, marjoram, and other spices, then stuffed into natural casings. The texture is firmer than hot dogs but not as dense as salami.
Kielbasa works great sliced and pan-fried, grilled whole, added to soups and stews, or served with sauerkraut and mustard. It's a versatile ingredient that adds hearty, smoky flavor to everything from pasta dishes to breakfast hash.
