Who made this dish?
Last week's Star Baker. Apples in a caramelized brown sugar sauce under a cinnamon sponge, finished with an oat crumble and served with vanilla custard. A family favorite made with his dad, mum and nan. Tom: "I don't want to overcook the apples. We're not babies. We don't want baby food." Tom: "I love apple crumble. I've always made it with my dad, my mom, my nan." Tom: "I want it to stay nice and light. I don't want a little... what's that thing they play with in hockey? A puck. A puck of pudding." Tom: "So just gonna cook up my sauce. Dark brown sugar, a bit of hot water and a bit of golden syrup." Tom: "So now I'm on it with just making my crumble." Tom: "Do you know what? I might take them out, actually." Tom: "It looks ugly, but there's plenty of sauce. That's the main thing." Tom: "So we've got an apple crumble self-saucing pudding."
Paul: "Tom, it's an interesting blob." Nigella: "See, unlike the professor here, I like the blob. It's got a bit of a spikiness." Nigella: "I love the flavors." Paul: "The apple comes through, works really well with the caramel." Nigella: "And I love that sticky sauce." Paul (judges' review): "I thought Tom overall did well."
