Bao Buns with Chinese Five-Spice Braised Pork Belly and Mushrooms 


Jade's signature, her mother's recipe: homemade fluffy bao buns filled with five-spice braised pork belly and mushrooms, cucumber and carrot pickle, and an aromatic sauce made from the braising liquid, served with a fresh salad garnish. In Singapore, she says, you greet people by asking 'Have you eaten?'

Judge: "Jade, I'm really enjoying this. Your pork is beautiful - it's taken on the five spices and the rice wine, and that sauce is really outstanding. It's vinegary and sharp and it builds as you're eating it." 


Judge: "Food is so important in our lives. Your mother taught you how to cook, and I have no doubt that your mother would be very proud." [Won the first MasterChef apron.]
