Who made this dish?
Flavors: raisins, sultanas, orange, lemon and vanilla paste. Ranked 1st, his first technical win. Gary: "This is something I've had all my life. I've kind of stuck to what I've done at home. I've got raisins, sultanas, two oranges, a lemon. I've gone mad." Gary: "I beat the eggs and sugar first and then warm the milk and cream up." Gary: "I've put some vanilla paste in, so I've gone very traditional." Gary: "So bread, sultanas and raisins." Gary: "I'm thinking probably 50 minutes." / "Chilling, chilling like a villain." Gary: "That's an old fashioned bread and butter pudding." Gary: "Yeah, I do it all the time. First technical win puts me in a good position."
[Technical challenge set by Nigella, judged blind. Brief: enhance a classic bread and butter pudding with ingredients from the gingham pantry, without overwhelming it. Judges want a crisp golden top, smooth custard with a wobble, bread soaked rather than dry, and complementary additions.] Paul: "This one is raisin, sultanas, vanilla, orange and lemon. Dried fruit on the top. Delicious." Nigella: "It's a nice soft-set custard here. I love the flavor." Paul: "It's kept that moistness in there." Nigella (1st place): "Really tasted good. And you're obviously an old hand at bread and butter pudding."
