Gnocchi with Beef Kofta
Matt explains his approach: 'I'm just going to treat it as a normal potato dish. Put something that you'd have, meat and potatoes. I'm gonna make a kofta with gnocchi on the side. Yeah. Hope for the best.' When asked about sauce, Matt responds: 'I've not planned one, but now you're making me question it. There's a sauce going with the koftas.' The judges observe: 'Like little mince sausages. He's not quite understanding what the gnocchi dish should be and hasn't considered a sauce at all.' Later, Matt adds: 'Decided on a tomato sauce. I'm going to get some chilies in there and some garlic in there.' When John asks if he's boiled the gnocchi, Matt confirms: 'I've cooked some. But I'm going to finish them off in the frying pan. They've been boiled.' After judging, Matt comments: 'I thought dainty is the way, but apparently the boys wanted a big pile of food. I had loads left as well. I could have easily given more.'
John: 'You can actually make a kofta. We didn't ask you for a kofta dish, but you can make one. Your gnocchi are pretty good. They're light and they're fluffy, and you put them in a pan and you've got some color on them. We got a sweet tomato sauce with plenty of garlic in there, fair amount of chili.' Gregg: 'There's good flavors here. There's just not enough gnocchi on the plate for me.'
