Who made this dish?
[Technical challenge: mystery box, no recipe, two hours, judged blind. Finished 11th]
Shannon made a lemon drizzle cake soaked with lemon sugar syrup and finished with lemon curd and an icing drizzle, after her Swiss meringue buttercream split.
Shannon: "At least I can choose what it is."
Shannon: "Well, I have decided on the lemon drizzle. I've made loads with a method and ingredient list. Without that, we're on a whim."
Shannon: "After what happened with my mum in the signature, I've got to be very cautious now 'cause my flavors are too strong."
Shannon: "So I think I'm going to start it at 180 and see how it goes, 'cause I like my lemon drizzle to have a bit of a crisp edge. Let's do 20 minutes and see what it looks like after that."
Shannon: "I just gotta remember what goes in lemon curds."
Shannon: "It doesn't look too bad. So now I'm just going to poke loads of holes in it. Got a sugar syrup and drizzle that on top. Lemon drizzle."
Shannon: "I think it's going to be a bit too basic. I'm potentially thinking Swiss meringue buttercream, and it might look really pretty."
Shannon: "Oh, my God. It's split. My Swiss meringue buttercream has not gone well. I'm giving up with that now. I'm gonna do, like, an icing drizzle."
{Shannon}: "This is lemon curd, just to give it that extra bit of [zing]."
Shannon: "Not a fan of audience choices. Sorry, audience."
[Blind judging]
Paul: "Moving on to this lemon drizzle loaf cake. I mean, I like the top. I'm getting citrus, but I'm not getting flavor. Weirdly, that lemon punch is not coming through."
Nigella: "And the texture of the cake is powdery."
Nigella (announcing 11th place): "It's just fallen a bit flat. When you have a lemon drizzle cake, you've got to be really hit by lemoniness."
Judges' ranking: 11th.
