Who made this dish?
Signature challenge: 30 identical American-style cookies in two hours, any flavor, with an appropriate decorative finish, crisp to the bite with a chewy center. Connie can't remember a time she didn't bake and is keen to pass her passion on to her niece, Simone. Her vanilla cookies are packed with chocolate and pecans and finished with banana caramel, more pecans and white chocolate. She had never practiced them without being distracted by washing up, and her first two batches came out underbaked. {Connie}: "My cookies are chocolate and pecan with a banana caramel." Paul asked her to explain the banana caramel. {Connie}: "I'm using a little something like this, and I just want it to have a real flavor." When Nigella said she liked banana and Alison suggested a real banana: {Connie}: "Would you? Anybody got a banana?" {Connie}: "One of the things that have held me back in my practicing is I'm constantly washing up, so I've never been able to time myself. So hopefully I get it all done on time. I don't want to have to be flapping around." {Connie}: "Come on, babies." {Connie}: "These haven't turned out. They're too soft, too gooey. I don't know what's gone wrong. Oh, dear." {Connie}: "I don't know what's happening with the oven. I've turned it up, but they're just not baking." {Connie}: "They're not done. Just got to hope that these ones come out and then I'll have something." {Connie}: "Oh, these are so bad." {Connie}: "Oh, well, they are awful American cookies." {Connie}: "No, those ones are horrible. Those ones are no good." {Connie}: "Oh, everyone's got such lovely cookies. I've got no cookies." {Connie}: "These are the ones that didn't turn out so well. Anyway, it's vanilla with chocolate and pecan nuts with caramel and banana topping."
{Nigella Lawson}: "I'm enjoying the Jackson Pollock that was at the end. It was just like desperation decoration." {Paul Hollywood}: "They are like two completely different batches." {Paul Hollywood}: "The balance of these is good. I think the flavor of these particular ones is good. They're all over the place." {Nigella Lawson}: "I was very doubtful about your banana flavoring because it's a very modest amount. I really thought it worked in the caramel. Really did." {Connie}: "Thank you. I'm glad I was able to put something out for you." {Nigella Lawson}: "I'm glad too. They look gorgeous and I can see that some of them do have a good crisp edge." Later, in the judges' review, Paul said Connie had started really badly in the Signature.
