Retro Cherry Trifle

As seen on TV
Which Show?
Who made this dish?
Part of Connie's classic retro trolley, built around tinned fruit and custard.
A retro trifle much loved by her mum, made with tinned fruit.
Connie: "We've got a trifle, pear and apple pie, and then I'm making a pineapple upside down."
Connie: "When Mom went back to Jamaica, she was like, darling, just pack me some of my trifle. So when everybody was packing stuff to take back to their mothers, I was packing packs of trifle."
Connie: "I'm making the sponge cake for the trifle, so I need to get this in really quickly."
Connie: "So I'm layering the trifle. So this is good old tinned fruit."
Connie: "Cherry trifle."
Connie (after judging): "There were little bits that weren't perfect, but I'm proud of myself."
[Showstopper: a retro dessert trolley of at least three individually portioned desserts, eight of each, with at least one baked element. 4 hours 30 minutes.]
Nigella: "I love it, I love it. Well, you promised a retro trifle and that's what you delivered."
Paul: "Probably could do more with a kicker flavor in the fruit bit."
Paul (trolley overall): "God, it's like being back at me nan's. I don't know what to start with."
Nigella (trolley overall): "I mean, the look is perfect. That really could be in a magazine from the 70s."
Nigella (judges' review): "Connie's trifle delighted me." Paul: "It was very 70s."
[Connie was named Star Baker.]
