Which Show?
Who made this dish?
Flavors: hazelnut, chocolate and cherries. Ranked 7th. Yannis had never made one before. Yannis: "I'm doing hazelnut, chocolate, and cherries as well. I like using those kind of flavors." Yannis: "So I'm just slowly pouring my hot milk and cream into the egg mixture." Yannis: "It's a lot of lovely stale bread." Yannis: "These are quite renowned flavors. Cherry, chocolate and hazelnut. It's a great combination. I don't think it looks overwhelming." Yannis: "I want the custard to set as much as possible." Yannis: "I'm a bit gutted, because I thought the flavors really worked. It just means that my showstopper needs to be a great showstopper."
[Technical challenge set by Nigella, judged blind. Brief: enhance a classic bread and butter pudding with ingredients from the gingham pantry, without overwhelming it. Judges want a crisp golden top, smooth custard with a wobble, bread soaked rather than dry, and complementary additions.] Paul: "Okay, so we've got cherries, chocolate and hazelnut." Nigella: "Looking at it, I feel my tip about not overwhelming has not been heeded." Paul: "I like the flavor of the chocolate and the cherries, but it overwhelms everything." Nigella: "It's taking over. It's a chocolate pudding." Nigella (7th place): "There just was so much going on, you lost the sense of it." Nigella (judges' review): "Yannis, you do have to understand what is going to happen before you start adding things."
