Are ground almonds and almond flour the same thing?

They're essentially the same thing, though there can be subtle differences depending on the brand and region. if you buy either one from this site you will get exactly what you ask for.
Almond flour is typically made from blanched almonds (skins removed) and ground very finely, giving it a lighter color and smoother texture. This is what most baking recipes call for, especially for things like macarons or delicate cakes.
Ground almonds (sometimes called almond meal) often includes the skins and may have a slightly coarser texture, resulting in a more rustic, speckled appearance in baked goods.
In practice, many brands use the terms interchangeably, so it's worth checking the packaging to see if the almonds are blanched or unblanched and how fine the grind is. For most recipes, specially heartier ones like frangipane or almond cakes—you can swap one for the other without issue.
