Caraway Seeds

Caraway Seeds

Caraway seeds are small, crescent-shaped brown seeds with a distinctive warm, earthy, slightly sweet flavour reminiscent of anise and fennel. Often confused with cumin (which they physically resemble), caraway actually belongs to the parsley family. The seeds are a staple in Central and Eastern European cooking, lending depth to rye bread, sauerkraut, goulash, and Polish meat dishes. To unlock their full aroma, toast them briefly in a dry pan until fragrant before grinding or using whole. They pair beautifully with cabbage, beetroot, pork, and apples, adding a complex herby warmth that defines many central European classics.
