Even Distribution of Pecans

Pecans naturally sink in cake batter due to their density, but strategic placement and preparation can improve distribution. Toss chopped pecans lightly in flour before layering on the bottom - this helps them grip the batter slightly. When swirling the top layer, don't worry if some pecans get suspended - this actually creates better distribution throughout the finished cake. The combination of bottom-layered and suspended nuts provides textural interest in every slice while preventing all nuts from settling at the bottom.
