Cinnamon Roll Homage Cake
Sue's homage to her late mother, who was known for her cinnamon rolls. A vertical layer cake of thin Jaconde sponge wrapped around cinnamon molasses whipped cream. Sue, a self-anointed quilting queen from Tulsa, Oklahoma, was surprised with her ticket to the tent by her grandkids. She practiced the bake countless times in hopes that her mother 'is looking down and going to be happy that we did it.'
Prue felt the cake was 'a little on the lean' but said Sue 'should be quite proud of that.' Paul praised the bake: 'The blend between the sponge and the cinnamon is spot on. And that's the key thing. You can overwhelm sponge really easy, especially a delicate sponge like this. I love it.'
