Who made this dish?
Snail-shaped fig rolls, presented formally as "fig roll adolescent giant African land snails," inspired by Alex Horne's late pet snail, Santa.
Roughly chopped figs were rolled inside his dough into a log, then sliced into miniature snails.
Alex: "I am making fig rolls. Inspired by my favourite ever pet, Santa the Snail." Alex: "Well, yeah, I suppose so. And then I am going to slice it into miniature snails." He brought along his inspiration and told the tale of Santa being dug up by a fox the morning after burial: "So the children thought he had risen again. He beat Jesus’s record."
On appearance: "I think they look good. They do look a bit like fish."
On flavour and texture: "I think the flavour is great. Texture is a bit hard."
{Judge}: "You overbaked them."
On the balance of filling to biscuit: "What do you think of the ratio of fig to biscuit?" / "Perfect."
Both judges said they would buy them: "I always judge things: would I pay money for it? And I would." / "Oh, yeah, I would as well."
