Jonathan's Salade Niçoise — Seared Tuna with Boiled Egg, Olives, Beans and a Light Mustard Vinaigrette (potatoes left in the oven). Jonathan was the most rattled by this challenge — he'd never made a Niçoise and couldn't phone his mother for help. Jonathan: "I have no idea what I'm doing. Couldn't pick the worst choice. But we're here now." Jonathan: "My mum makes a great salad, so there's no way I can ring her, is there?" Jonathan: "I'm going to just try and make the dressing really good, make sure I cook the tuna really well, and then hopefully that'll be enough." Jonathan: "Tuna's looking good to me. Decided to roast potatoes, which I think was just an impulsive decision, but hopefully it was a good one." Jonathan: "I put my potatoes on sugar."
Grace Dent: "Jonathan — your salad. Your tuna is really over. It's very dry. Where are the other potatoes?" Jonathan: "They're in the oven." Grace Dent: "You haven't had a great day with the oven, have you?" Jonathan: "The oven's been my nemesis." John Torode: "I think it looks like a pretty salad, but I can taste that the vinaigrette isn't properly balanced. You need a bit more of the olive oil, a little bit more seasoning inside the vinaigrette." Outcome: ELIMINATED — left the competition.
