Ingredients

220 g plain all-purpose flour

40 g powdered sugar
20 g vanilla powder
¼ tspn salt
60 g Crisco vegetable shortening, chilled and grated
60 g margarine, chilled and grated
1 large egg, beaten
15-30 ml ice cold water

Instructions

In a large mixing bowl, sift the flour, powdered sugar and salt. Add the two types of fat and rub the mixture together with your fingertips until it reaches a breadcrumb consistency.

Make a well in the centre and add the egg. Using a fork, mix the egg into the flour. Add 1 tablespoon (15 ml) of the ice-cold water, and use your fingertips to bring the dough together, adding more water if necessary. Refrigerate.
