What is Pomace Oil?
Pomace oil is an olive oil byproduct made from the leftover pulp, pits, and skins of olives. It's produced by extracting the remaining oil from the pomace using solvents, then refining the oil to remove impurities.
How Pomace Oil is made
Olive oil is extracted from the olives using mechanical methods
The remaining pulp, pits, and skins are called pomace
Chemical solvents, like hexane, are used to extract the remaining oil from the pomace
The extracted oil is refined to remove impurities
The refined oil is blended with a small amount of virgin olive oil to improve its flavor and aroma
Characteristics
Pomace oil has a neutral flavor and scent
It's often blended with virgin olive oil to improve its taste and aroma
It's sometimes cheaper than other olive oils
