Josh
Josh is a chemist by trade and brings his scientist’s precision and keenness to experiment into the kitchen, taking careful notes on each part of the baking process and perfecting all his techniques for gorgeous results. He likes to take his inspiration from old baking books, reinventing classics to give them a modern twist, often by introducing alternative flavours and including the seasonal fruit and vegetables from his kitchen garden. Josh has been playing rugby for his local team for more than 15 years, and once a month he bakes lots of treats to reward his teammates after a rigorous training session. He dreams of having his own artisan bakery one day.

"Dr Josh is a passionate science communicator, presenter and baker, with a doctorate in chemical biology. A finalist of the 2023 series of The Great British Bake Off, Josh was renowned for his impressive showstopper bakes and steadfast attention to detail.
Being equally accomplished in the laboratory and the kitchen, in 2024 Josh founded the Science Kitchen at the University of Leicester, where he brings together the worlds of science and baking to deliver lectures, demonstrations and videos to enthuse the public and inspire the next generation of scientists.
As a science communicator Josh has developed shows to present at venues including the Royal Institution, Cheltenham Science Festival and the National Space Centre. He has also hosted ‘Science of Baking’ webinars with the likes of the Royal Society of Chemistry, written for the New Scientist, and frequently delivers talks at schools and universities. As an ambassador for the NSPCC, Josh also created a cake for their 25th Number Day anniversary, which was sliced by HRH Duchess of Edinburgh.
In his spare time, Josh will most likely be found playing rugby or caring for the large kitchen garden at his Leicestershire home. Whether it’s fresh produce for baking, Giant veg for showing, or grapes for turning into wine, science is provides the recipe for success!"
