Challenge:
Babka
Signature

The Great American Baking Show bakers were challenged to create a perfectly baked sweet and delicious babka loaf within 2 hours and 45 minutes, focusing on enriched yeasted dough with visible swirls and sweet fillings.

Presenters: "for today's signature challenge, Prue and Paul would like you to create a perfectly baked sweet and delicious babka loaf. Babka means grandmother in Polish. Your babkas should be made with an enriched yeasted dough that has been rolled out and plaited before baking. The flavor of your bread and the sweet filling is entirely up to you, but there should be a visible swirl."

Paul Hollywood: "A babka, basically is a yeasted risen cake, or bread, with plenty of filling inside it. It's normally twisted or plaited to give a beautiful pattern or swirl inside, and it needs a little icing, and it certainly needs a little drizzle or a sort of syrup top."

Prue Leith: "Ultimately, with the babka, I want it crispy on the outside, full of flavor, nice swirls all the way through, but a beautiful soft dough inside."
