Top Chef ™
Jonathan
Jonathan Dearden is the Corporate Chef for KNEAD Hospitality + Design, a Washington, D.C.-based restaurant
company overseeing a diverse portfolio of twelve restaurants spanning Mexican, French, Southern, and
Korean-influenced concepts. Raised in Sterling, Virginia, alongside his identical twin brother and fellow Top Chef:
Carolinas competitor Brandon Dearden, Jonathan found his passion for cooking early and pursued it with the same
intensity his brother did - the two represent only the second pair of twins to compete simultaneously on Top Chef, drawing natural comparisons to Season 6’s celebrated Voltaggio brothers.
Jonathan earned a bachelor’s degree in culinary management from the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale and trained under James Beard Award-winning chefs including Allen Susser and Edward Lee, whose influence shaped Jonathan’s deeply cross-cultural palate. His cooking melds classical French technique with the bold flavors of Latin, Central American, and Caribbean cuisines - a style he describes as honoring each ingredient’s origin while pushing creative boundaries. Jonathan has also cooked alongside José Andrés through the World Central Kitchen humanitarian initiative, work that reflects his commitment to food as a force for community.
At KNEAD, Jonathan oversees culinary programming across a broad portfolio, developing menus that span multiple cultural traditions within a single hospitality group. The challenge of creating coherence across twelve restaurants - balancing authentic flavors with creative evolution - is evident in his competition approach: deliberate, conceptually clear, and precise in execution.
