Inspired by a visit to Deep Roots, Charlotte's regenerative urban farm, twelve chefs were each assigned one classic Southern side dish and challenged to transform it into a satisfying main course entree, cooking for forty diners. The seven sides in play were collard greens, fried okra, potato salad, Charleston red rice, Hoppin' John, hoe cakes and smothered cabbage. Guest judges Greg and Sabrina joined Tom and Padma at the table. Sieger won the challenge with his braised pork belly and okra with seeded tempura, earning immunity. Brittany was eliminated.
